Dorothy J. Mayberry

Dorothy J. Mayberry, 76, of South Sioux City, NE. died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at a local nursing home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Loving Faith Fellowship with Dr. Patrick Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dorothy was born, Jan. 9, 1930, in Sioux City, to Henry and Madalene (Craig) Hendricks. She grew up and attended South Sioux City schools, where she graduated in 1948.

She married James Peterson in 1948. She attended Stewarts School of Beauty in Sioux City. She then owned and operated the Beauty Box on West Fourth Street.

She later married Ted W. Mayberry on April 19, 1965, in Elk Point, S.D. She was co-owner of T&D Services in South Sioux City. She worked at the South Sioux City Wal-Mart as a cashier until she retired in 2002.

She was a member of the South Sioux City Eagles Aerie Post 2492, where she was a former president and a member of the ritual team. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed quilting, reading and working on word puzzles.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Kenneth and Marianne Peterson of Portage, Mich., Wendy and Roger Newcomb of St. Cloud, Fla., and Melony and Ken Moore of South Sioux City; two stepdaughters, Trisa Montagne and Teri Sue and her husband, Tom Backus, all of Olathe, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Joyce and Dwaine Oban of Dakota City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted W. Mayberry on April 19, 1992; a stepson, Ted G. Mayberry; and a brother, Craig Hendricks.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
