Marguerite Meissner

Marguerite Amelia (Nelson) Meissner, 100, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at a area nursing home.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Roger Graf officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Marguerite was born Feb. 28, 1906, in Downing, Wis., the daughter of Jacob and Amelia (Mielke) Nelson. She spent her childhood in Mahnomen, Minn. She received her degree in education from St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She taught school in Minnesota and did substitute teaching in Sioux City up until 1972.

In 1932, she married Raymond Casper Meissner. They resided in St. Cloud, Minn., where their only child, Keith, was born in 1940. The family moved to Sioux City in 1953 and continued to live until present. From 1972 to 2000, winters were spent in McAllen, Texas.

She was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Morningside Chapter, Hathor Temple Daughters of the Nile (Abu Bekr Shrine), Kan-Duettes (widows of Shriners) of Abu Bekr Shrine, the Floyd Park Women's Golf Association, the Southern Hills Mall Walkers and the Siouxland Senior Center.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Diane Meissner and Karen Gibson, both of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on April 14, 1983; and her son, Keith on Aug. 11, 2005.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Abu Bekr Shrine Children's Transportation Fund or to Morningside Presbyterian Church.
