October 8, 1920 — December 25, 2008

SIOUX CITY -- Hildagard M. Metz, 88, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at her home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Hildagard was born on Oct. 8, 1920, in Hartington, Neb., to Fred and Mary (Burns) Riibe. She received her education at Hartington Public Schools. Hildagard married Fred W. Metz on Aug. 19, 1943, in Dakota City. She was a production worker at various packinghouses in the Sioux City area for numerous years before taking on a full-time caregiver role to her husband after war-related injuries required him to retire.

Hildagard enjoyed gardening and shopping for treasures at thrift stores like Goodwill. She kept her bible close at hand and taught her family the importance of having faith. She found great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Survivors include her sons, Fred Metz and Alan Metz and his wife, Jane, all of Sioux City; grandchildren, Michelle Schroeder and her husband, Jason of Worthing, S.D., Madison Metz, Jacob Metz and Jordan Metz, all of Sioux City; and a great-granddaughter, Rebeka Schroeder of Worthing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Arthur, Leonard and Francis; a sister, Louise; and a grandson, Heath Metz.

Hildagard's family would like to say a special thanks to Hospice of Siouxland for their outstanding care.
