Bonnie Mae Miller of Hartford, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave, in Sioux City, with the Rev. James Travis of Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Bonnie Mae Miller was born Sept. 6, 1925, in Oto, Iowa, the daughter of Fred George and Olive (Stratton) Burgess. She graduated valedictorian from the Oto eighth grade class of 1941. She also graduated valedictorian of Onawa (Iowa) High School with the class of 1945.
She married William H. Miller on July 6, 1945, in Onawa. He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1995, both passing away on the 26th of September. She was a stay-at-home mom until she went to work for various insurance companies, serving as executive secretary for 18 years at Pennsylvania Life, Equitable Life of Iowa and Bankers Life of Iowa.
In her free time, she was a great game player and a huge Chicago Cubs fan. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was named the Iowan Chapter of American Business Woman of the Year. She was also named in the 1982 Who's Who in American Business.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen "Ellie" Bullington of Hartford, Iowa; a son and his wife, Dennis and Janice Miller of Gillette, Wyo.; a brother, George Burgess of Oracle, Ariz.; three sisters, Louise Larson and Florence Davis, both of Sioux City and Ruby Allen of Delaware; four grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-stepgrandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Karen Jeanne; a sister, Helen; and three brothers, Walter, Dean and Nuel.
Pallbearers will be Jason Adams, Edward Kennedy, Brian Coates, Robert Morphew, James Morphew and Kyle Coates.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa in her name.
