John T. Nason

JEFFERSON, S.D. -- John Thomas Nason, 80, of Jefferson died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, with the Rev. Matthew Hewitt officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

John was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Plymouth County, near Akron, Iowa, the son of John and Stella (McGiffey) Nason. He attended Ridge View Elementary School and graduated from Westfield High School in 1946. After graduation, he farmed with his parents at Westfield, Iowa. In 1949, John and his parents moved to a farm at Jefferson, S.D., where he lived and farmed for 50 years, retiring in 1996.

John enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado and the Southwest. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and attended the Cathedral of the Epiphany.

He is survived by several cousins and his close friends, Ron and Ann Trudo of Jefferson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and her husband, Rita and Ray Sabo.
