Betty E. Newton, 68, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 12, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Wesleyan Church, with Pastor LeRoy Mead officiating. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery at Sloan, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Betty E. Newton was born Jan. 23, 1938, in Sloan, the daughter of Robert G. and Opal I. (Craig) Stanley. She graduated from Central High School in 1956.

She married Robert L. Newton on Nov. 23, 1964, in Las Vegas, Nev. Robert passed away in June of 1971 in Albuquerque, N.M. Betty was a homemaker and had also worked at Gateway for four years.

She was a member of New Hope Wesleyan Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, president of the Wesleyan Women's Group and the Wesleyan Red Hat Society. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 64, and was an organ donor. Betty enjoyed crocheting and reading the Bible. She was an avid Cubs baseball and Iowa Hawkeyes basketball fan. She enjoyed watching the food network, weather channel and the home and garden channel. She also enjoyed listening to the Oakridge Boys. Betty will be remembered for treating everyone she knew like family. She was very involved with her children's lives.

Survivors include her mother, Opal I. Stanley of Sioux City; two sons, Robert Charles (Ann) Newton and Craig L. (Corrie) Newton, all of Sioux City; a daughter, Cheryl J. Newton of Sioux City; a sister, Stella M. Stanley of Sioux City; a grandson, Quinn Newton; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; her husband; and four sisters, Gladys Modglin, Edith Stanley, Mabel Held and Ruth Stanley.
