Merrie Jo Patelski

Merrie Jo Patelski, 54, of Lansing, MI, formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, in Lansing. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Nelson ~ Berger Northside Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, also at Nelson ~ Berger Northside Chapel with Reverend Roger Madden officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery.

Merrie was born on August 22, 1954, in Miami Beach, FL to Lilla (Tullis) Nelson. The family moved to Sioux City when Merrie was a young child. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. She then attended college to be a surgical technician.

Merrie was married to Rex Patelski in September 28, 1992, at Trimble United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Merrie enjoyed rummaging, sewing, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Merrie is survived by her husband, Rex Patelski of Lansing, MI; a daughter, Deb Horne; a step daughter, Carrie Patelski of North Liberty, IA; step sons, John (Teresa) Patelski of Sioux City, IA, Craig (Emily) Patelski of Fergus Falls, MN, and Justin Patelski of Lansing, MI; 6 grandchildren; a brother, Dan (Linda) Nelson of Sioux City, IA, and a sister-in-law, Christine Nelson of North Sioux City, SD; and 2 nephews Ben and J.J. Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lilla Marine, a brother, Jim Nelson and a nephew, Alex Nelson.
