Frances R. Pinkelman

Frances R. Pinkelman, 86, of Newcastle passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at Golden Living Care Center in Hartington, Neb., following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Newcastle. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church parish hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Frances was born Sept. 27, 1922, in Ponca, Neb., the daughter of Bernard and Pearl (Flageolle) Pearson. She grew up in Ponca and graduated from Ponca High School. Frances attended beauty school in Sioux City and then opened her own beauty salon.

She married Hugo J. Pinkelman on April 29, 1946, in Newcastle. He died Aug. 13, 1981, in Hartington. After her marriage, Frances became a full-time homemaker, raising their eight children. She later reopened and operated Pinkelman Beauty Salon. Frances also worked for IBP for 10 years.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Sodality as well as the American Legion Auxiliary and Helping Hand Club. Frances enjoyed the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting and playing cards.

Survivors include seven children, Trudy Hagen and her husband, Dennie of Newcastle, Rick Pinkelman and his wife, Trudy of Maskell, Neb., Patsy Stander and her husband, John of Ponca, Neb., Paul Pinkelman and his significant other, Chari Felton of Omaha, Dan Pinkelman and his wife, Barb of Aurora, Neb., Bill "Willie" Pinkelman of Wayne, Neb., and Shelly Tieman and her husband, Bill of Cornelius, Ore.; a son-in-law, Lyle Hall of South Sioux City; two brothers, Elmer Pearson of Sioux City, and Earl Pearson of Kent, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Midge Pearson of Citrus Heights, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Julie Hall; sisters, Adeline Breslin, Marie Dougherty and Ruth Hughes; and brothers, Everett Pearson and William Pearson.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Robb Hagen, Shane Pinkelman, Miah Pinkelman, Matt Stander, Riah Pinkelman and Zach Pinkelman. Honorary pallbearers will be her other grandchildren, Kim, Tricia, Jamie, Lisa, Lynnette, Lori, Joshua, Jennifer, Melissa, Tina, Jacob, Heather, Amber and Kira.
