SERGEANT BLUFF -- Timothy J. Rahn, 84, of Sergeant Bluff died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Abiding by the family's wishes, the body has been cremated. No services will be held at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Tim was born April 15, 1925, in Ponca, Neb., to Edward and Anna (Weller) Rahn. Following his graduation from Ponca High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Sept. 30, 1943. He received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal before receiving his honorable discharge on his birthday, April 15, 1946. He remained in the U.S. Naval Reserves until 1954.

He married Alice Hostad on Nov. 25, 1950, at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City. He worked for McMaster Grain in Sioux City for 43 years before taking his retirement.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling, often times with his brothers. Later in life, he found joy in walking his dogs. He was a proud member of First Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Rahn of Sergeant Bluff; a sister, Gwendolyn Thomas of Texas; a brother, Earl Rahn of Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Bob Hostad and his wife, Joan of Sioux City; sisters-in-law, Nancy Haack and her husband, Dean and Patricia Hostad, all of Sioux City and Joan Rahn of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers and sisters.
