Kenneth J. Richmann

August 13, 1931 — January 21, 2009

SIOUX CITY -- Kenneth J. Richmann, 77, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Kenneth was born in Bremer County, Iowa, on Aug. 13, 1931, the son of John F. and Eldora (Hagenow) Richmann. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Klinger, Iowa, for eight years and was confirmed at Immanuel in 1945. He graduated from Readlyn High School in 1949 and entered the U.S. Air Force.

He married Alberta Jean Sell on Nov. 25, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1972 after 23 years of service which included one tour of duty in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam and numerous stations throughout the U.S. He was a jet engine mechanic during his Korean years and a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War. He ended his career at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, working on helicopters including the presidential fleet of helicopters.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 64. Over the years, he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed camping. He continuously volunteered and gave his time to numerous organizations in Sioux City.

He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Steven and Becky Richmann of Onawa, Iowa, Susan and Fred Chartier of Sioux City and Stanley and Deb Richmann of Calamus, Iowa; four grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Myrtle and Henry Waidelich of Waverly, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Marlys Richmann of Denver, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David; two brothers, Norman and Arlin; and a sister in infancy.
