NEWCASTLE, Neb. -- Bonnie E. Rohan, 90, of Newcastle died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Newcastle. Visitation will begin 5 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Bonnie was born March 10, 1921, in Allen, Neb., the daughter of Pervis and Thelma (Allen) Lamm. She grew up in the Allen and Newcastle areas and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1938.
Bonnie married John V. Rohan on Nov. 21, 1938, in Newcastle. He died on Nov. 17, 2003, in Ponca, Neb. John and Bonnie farmed in Iowa and Nebraska. Bonnie owned and operated Bonnie's Beauty Salon in Newcastle for 40 years.
Bonnie was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include eight children, John Rohan Jr. and his wife, Janice of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Louise Lowe and her husband, Larry of Ponca, Neb., Robert Rohan and his wife, Colleen of Newcastle, Edward Rohan of Bronson, Iowa, Richard Rohan and his wife, Vantana of Carter Lake, Iowa, Virginia Meyer and her husband, Donald of Newcastle, Catherine Thomason of Englewood, Ohio, and Patricia Hughes and her husband, Keith of Lincoln, Neb.; 25 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a sister, Dorothy Rastede; a brother, Allen Lamm; an infant brother, Warren Lamm; a son-in-law, Kerry Thomason; and a daughter-in-law, Nina Snyder Rohan.
Pallbearers will be the grandchildren.
