SIOUX CITY -- Agnes Josephine Watt, 98, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home of natural causes.
Private graveside services will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Agnes was born Feb. 5, 1911, in Sioux City, the daughter of Mikkel and Anna Moen. She was raised in Siouxland, attended Sioux City Schools and graduated from Central High School.
On March 28, 1931, Agnes was married to Clifford H. Watt in Sioux City. To their union three boys were born, Thomas C. Watt, Richard M. Watt and C. Jeffery Watt. She, her husband and father-in-law owned and operated Watt's Market in Leeds for more than 50 years. She also had been employed by Commodity Brokers, Sears and she retired from St. Vincent's Hospital's purchasing department after 16 years.
Agnes was a member of First Lutheran Church, Azure Chapter of the Eastern Star, Crystal Rhythm Dance Club and various bridge clubs. She loved playing cards and camping was something she treasured with her family and friends. Agnes had fantastic cooking and baking skills and always had a basket of candy or cookies to share with whomever would come to visit her. She had a natural ability to touch the hearts of anyone she ever met and was always a peacemaker. One of her greatest joys in life was her family, and she loved every one of them equally.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, C. Jeffery Watt and his wife, Linda of Sioux City; a brother, Marvin Moen and his wife, Marilyn of Florida; daughters-in-law, Jacque Watt of Waterloo, Iowa, and Judy Watt of Des Moines; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Agnes was greeted at heaven's gate by her mother and father; husband, Clifford; two sons, Thomas and Richard; and her three sisters, Clara Hague, Kalma Martin and Margaret Guzallis.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established with the family.
