SIOUX CITY -- Patsy Y. Wetzel, 74, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a battle against cancer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Patsy was born Oct. 15, 1934, in Moorhead, Iowa, to Earl and Edith (Shoff) Pratt II. She graduated from Moorhead Public Schools before moving to Sioux City to work at Iowa Public Service as a secretary.
She married William Wetzel on June 13, 1958, in Greenville, S.C., while William was in the U.S. Air Force. The couple relocated to Sioux City a few years later when Patsy began her career with Western Contracting as a secretary. She worked a few years following that at Toy National Bank before working at, and retiring from, John Morrell in 2000.
Patsy enjoyed crocheting, camping, fishing, playing solitaire, relaxing with a word find book and watching NASCAR and football. However, loving her children and pets gave her the greatest joy.
Survivors include her children, Daniel Wetzel and special friend, Connie, Bill Wetzel and special friend, Gail Terry and Linda Moran and her fiance, Neil Blohm, all of Sioux City; brothers, Robert Pratt and his wife, Sharon, Jack Pratt and his wife, Ellie and Earl Pratt; sisters, Margaret Neilson and Charlotte Edwards; grandchildren, Travis Wetzel of Texas, Amanda Monroe of Texas, and Brandi Wetzel of Sioux City; and sisters-in-law, Lynne Wetzel, Gretch Ortmann and her husband, James and Jean Pratt.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William in 2003; a daughter, Tereasa Monroe in 2009; an infant grandson, Curtis Monroe; a daughter-in-law, Kerry Wetzel in 2007; a brother, Boyd Pratt; brothers-in-law, Ed Jahns and Jack Wetzel; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Pratt.
