Dr. Martin L. Zucker, 85, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at Congregation Beth Shalom, with Rabbi Hillel Greene officiating. Burial will be in Mount Sinai Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Dr. Zucker was born Sept. 18, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn., to Peter and Eva Zucker. After graduating from high school, Dr. Zucker attended undergrad school and medical school at the University of Minnesota. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army as a captain at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Colorado, where he specialized in pulmonary medicine. He was married to Raleigh Sekt on Oct. 29, 1965, in Los Angeles, Calif. He was totally devoted to the practice of medicine. He was a doctor of internal medicine, practicing in Los Angeles as well as in Sioux City. He was one of the original directors of the cardiac unit at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of the Woodbury County Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Legion. He served as team physician for the L.A. Lakers basketball team and loved watching all sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Raleigh Zucker of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Randi and Doug Shaw of Dallas, Texas; and a sister, Beverly Cooperman of Vancouver, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Rollie.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Barricks, Dr. John Doughtery, Dr. Paul Berger, Dr. Jim Goebels, Dr. Som Oei and Douglas Shaw.
