SIOUX CITY -- Darlene Banwart, 88, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Russell Senstad officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Darlene was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Ottosen, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Dorothea (Harms) Block. She married Russell G. Banwart July 29, 1944, in West Bend, Iowa. He died Dec. 3, 2009, in Sioux City. Darlene was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She loved to travel, but her greatest love was being a mother and grandmother. Survivors include her sons, Keith and wife Michele Banwart of Altoona, Iowa, Andrew and wife Laura Ash of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mark and wife Patty Banwart; and five grandchildren, Pastor Keith Banwart Jr., Sarah Banwart, Benjamin Banwart, Paul Banwart and Wade Ash. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Robert Block. Memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
