Eleanor Jeanette Leaverton, 66, of rural Merrill passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at her residence following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, March 25, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Eleanor was born April 17, 1945 in Sioux City, the daughter of George and Emma (McCulloch) Corkin. Eleanor graduated from Morningside College, summa cum lade with a double major in accounting and economics in 1980. She married Jerry Leaverton on July 29, 1979 in Sioux City. Eleanor worked as an accountant for Iowa Public Service and then as an Insurance Administrator for Metz Baking until retirement. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and quilting but her greatest love was playing cards with her grandchildren and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband Jerry Leaverton of Merrill, a son Glenn Brown of Carrollton, VA, two daughters: Angela and husband Mickey Doren of Ortonville, MN and Candice and husband Michael Haafke of Bronson; seven grandchildren: Tighe Brown, Jessica Brown, Ashley Westlund, Jeanette Westlund, Travis Westlund, Emily Vance, and Amber Vance; a brother Bill and wife Andy Corkin of Dakota City, NE; three sisters: Lewy Parsons of Casper, WY, Esther McGuire of Phoenix, AZ and Betty and husband Fred Stinger of South Sioux City, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Bob and George; and a sister Myra.
