Gerald J. "Babe" Schoenherr, 84 of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at a local care facility. Funeral services will be will at 10:00 A.M. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City with Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Sunday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Sunday all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, IA. Gerald was born Oct. 7, 1927 in Mapleton, IA. He was the son of John and Lena (Schleimer) Schoenherr. He grew up on a farm in Mapleton and married Marilyn Dugan January 20, 1950 in Sioux City. They farmed the family farm in Mapleton until moving to Sioux City in 1955. Gerald then farmed in the Hinton area for many years. Gerald was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Lake Pleasant Game Club, Coon Hunters of America and Four Seasons Health Club. In his free time he loved hunting, trapping and fighting his game fowls. Survivors include his wife Marilyn of Sioux City, a son: Steven Schoenherr and his wife Robbi of Hinton, IA; 2 daughters: Jeanette Casper and her husband Doug of Hinton, IA, Brenda Thelen and her husband Barry of Sioux City; one brother: Walter Schoenherr and his wife Carol of Merrill, IA; 7 grandchildren: Mike Casper and his wife Lisa, Mary Ryan and her husband Chris, Stacy Peterson and her husband Todd, Nick Schoenherr and his wife Stacy, Jeremiah Schoenherr and his wife Mindy, James Thelen and Thomas Thelen, 10 great grandchildren, a brother in law: Mike Dugan. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 8 sisters and a great grandson, Cole. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Mike Casper, Nick Schoenherr, Jeremiah Schoenherr, James Thelen, Thomas Thelen and his nephew, Russell Schoenherr
