Susie Gilbert

SIOUX CITY | Geralyn S. "Susie" Gilbert, 56, died peacefully at her home August 24, 2012, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Services will be Monday at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 p.m.-8.p.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Susie was born August 10, 1956, in Sioux City, the daughter of Edwin I. and Geraldine P. (Clark) Brown. She graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1974 and Western Iowa Tech Community College in 1993 with a degree in nursing. Susie married Ray Pike on June 10, 1974, and four children were born to this union. They later divorced. She married Robert Gilbert on November 24, 1995. Susie worked as a nurse for Mercy Medical, Alternative Home Health and as a surgical nurse at St. Luke's Medical Center. Susie was also a Mary Kay consultant. Susie loved her family and many friends, and had a great enthusiasm for life. She adored her grandchildren and cherished her time with them. Susie enjoyed playing bingo, weekends at the lake, time with friends, family get-togethers, and quiet time with loved ones. Mostly, Susie enjoyed living, and never took it for granted. Susie is survived by her husband Robert of Sioux City; four children, Tina Pike of Sergeant Bluff, her children Peyton and Cole; Connie (Ryan) Roseberry of Omaha, their children Addison and Jacob; Sarah Pike of Sioux City, her children Kyla, Kacee and Kynzie; Matt Pike of Sioux City; her stepmother, Bev Brown of Sioux City; four siblings Cathie (Garry) Eacker of Scottsdale AZ, Jim (Julie) Brown of Sioux City, Bob (Marsha) Brown of Norfolk, NE, and Bill (Dianne) Brown of Sioux City, and a stepbrother David (Anna) Edwards of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Tim Brown; her father-in-law, Larry Gilbert, mother-in-law, Lucille Gilbert and brother-in-law Jim Gilbert. Pallbearers will be Dan Conlon, Rory Jansen, Billie Rickord, Russ Kamerzell, Bob Cuttingham and Kurt Van Valkingburg. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and her brothers-in-law. Memorials may be made in her name to June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
