Tillie B. Torgenson, 92 of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at a local nursing facility. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Logan Park Cemetery with Reverend R. Paul Johnston officiating. Visitation, with family present, will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel prior to the graveside. Tillie was born September 20, 1920 in Menno, South Dakota to William and Christina (Hersch) Bechtold. She received her education in Menno before her marriage to Herman Ulmer. She worked on the family farm along side her husband, raising her two sons. She and Herman later divorced, and during her travels, Tillie met Don Torgenson while in Las Vegas, Nevada and the two married in December of 1982. The two lived in Rapid City, South Dakota before moving to Sioux City in 1989 when Tillie operated her beauty salon above the Orpheum Theater. She operated the Merle Norman Cosmetics until her retirement. Tillie enjoyed traveling, raising flowers, and fishing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, and enjoyed traveling south for the winter months to Superstitious Mountain, outside Phoenix, Arizona. Tillie is survived by her sons Kenneth Ulmer and his wife Ann of Hartley, Iowa and Edward Ulmer and his wife Clara of Black Hawk, South Dakota; four grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchilden. Tillie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don in 2005, and grandson Steve Ulmer in 2008.
