Melvin M. Gough, 85 of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Ryan Dowell Baum officiating. Entombment will be at Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 16th at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service/Masonic Service will begin Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Siouxland in Melvin's name. Melvin was born on May 23, 1927 in Canova, South Dakota to Alton and Nettie (Gibson) Gough. He attended Canova Schools until his family moved to Sioux Falls his sophomore year. Melvin graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls with the Class of 1946. He joined the United States Army before graduation and served at Walter Reed Hospital in the Dental Corp. Melvin worked for Sears following his Honorable Discharge. He married Barbara Hendrix on August 27, 1950 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to this union two children were born, Nancy and Douglas. Melvin managed the Sears mail-order office in Mitchell, South Dakota before being transferred to Sioux City in September of 1953. He worked as a Sales Manager at Sears, and retired after 40 years of service in 1987. Following his retirement, Melvin was a courier driver for Lanter and Corporate Express. Melvin enjoyed membership to numerous organizations throughout his life, including Landmark Lodge, York Rite Bodies, Abu Bekr Shrine, Eastern Star the Rose Croix Chapter, and MOA (Ambassadors) BMW Motorcycle Organization. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycle riding, camping, and photography. Melvin was proud of his membership to First Congregational United Church of Christ Church in Sioux City. Melvin is survived by his wife Barbara of Sioux City; daughter Nancy Watson and her husband Larry of Sioux City; son Douglas Gough and his wife Krystal of Sioux City; grandchildren Betsy Hoye of Coal Valley, IL, Jeremy Hoye of Ankeny, IA, Ben Watson and his wife Jessica, Mackenzie Gough, and Spencer Gough, all of Sioux City; great-grandchildren Anniston Watson and Madden Watson, both of Sioux City. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Leah Towner. The Gough family would like to offer a special thank you to Hospice of Siouxland and the staff, Mercy Medical Center Staff, Dr. Lucke, Dr. Bacon, and Dr. Gruden. Casket Bearers for the service will be Darrel Bullock, Mark Viksten, Kevin Knutson, Jim Stoddard, Doug Carlson, Scott Frink, and Ron Speckman. Honorary Bearers will be grandchildren Betsy Hoye, Ben Watson, Mackenzie Gough, Spencer Gough, Anniston Watson, Madden Watson, Jeremy Hoye, and Jessica Watson.
