SIOUX CITY | Helen A. Authier, 89, of Sioux City, IA died Sunday, Apr. 13, 2014 in Sioux City. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Apr. 16, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with the family present 5:30-8 p.m., a rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Helen was born Feb. 9, 1925 in Sioux City the daughter of George and Jennie (Bojarski) Grochowski. Following graduation from Cathedral High School she moved to Los Angeles, Calif. for a year. On June 30, 1946 she married Wayne R. "Swede" Authier in Sioux City. Helen was employed at Bolstein Creative Printing Co. from 1969 until 1986. The company later became Bear Graphics. She was also a very devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Helen was an active longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She was a founding and 50+ year member of the St. Boniface Mission Club and a member of the Rosary Society. Her various volunteer work included St. Boniface School Lunch, Girls Inc., the Soup Kitchen and at Mercy Medical Center. At the hospital, Helen delivered mail to the patients' rooms and was awarded a certificate for countless hours of service. Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. In earlier years she enjoyed her Sun Valley Golf League and bowling league. Survivors include 4 children, Linda Zortman and her husband, Jerry of Johnston, IA, Gary W. Authier of Sioux City, Mary E. Churchwell of Grants Pass, OR and Sue Newton and her husband, Johnnie of Le Mars, IA; 12 grandchildren, Raquel (Mike) Knox, Tiffany (Justin) Allen, Heather (Don) Tyrrel, Justin (Jamie) Zortman, Natalie (Dave) Barron, Juliette Authier, Gretchen Authier, Vanessa Authier, Nicolette (Luke) Stone, Aaron Churchwell, Jackson Newton and Annie Newton; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Rick Authier, a grandson, Daniel Authier, a great-grandson, Caleb Authier, 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Memorials may be made in her name to St. Boniface Catholic Church.
