Richard Julius "Dick" Meyer, 84 of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. There will be a rosary recited by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 4:00 P.M. Monday and a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Monday all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Dick was born February 26, 1930, he was the third of four children of Nicholas and Eleanora (Hermsen) Meyer, in Carroll, Iowa. He attended school at St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from St. Patrick's Academy at Danbury, IA in 1948. He began his career with Iowa Public Service and then served for 2 years in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Bangor, MA. After the service, he resumed working for Iowa Public Service where he worked a total of 37 years. Dick was united in marriage to Mary Ann Keleher Sept 14, 1950 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, The Chamber of Commerce, Elks & Eagles Clubs and the American Legion. Dick was also active in the Soap Box Derby Races with the Sioux City Jaycees. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, dancing, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann of Sioux City; 3 children: Terri McGill (John) of Loveland, CO, Scott Meyer (Tracy) of Fort Collins, CO, Amy Hauge (David) of Sioux City, a sister: Elaine Slavin of Harvard, IL; a daughter in law: Brenda Meyer of Greeley, CO; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Rita Fitzpatrick and a brother Garry Meyer. His son Steve passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Pallbearers will be John McGill, David Hauge, Ryan McGill, Nick Ramirez, David Pinson and Tim Fitzpatrick In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Boniface Catholic Church or Trinity Heights.
