Darlene was born January 17, 1928 in Garretson, SD; she was the daughter of John and Belle (Engebretson) Higgins. Her family came to Sioux City in 1937 and Darlene graduated from Central High School in 1946. Darlene married Jules "Brownie" Bay April 18, 1949 in Sioux City. They had 65 years together. Brownie and Darlene loved to go dancing at the Eagles Club and cut a rug almost every weekend. She worked for Security National Bank for 13 years. She was a long time member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and the Friday Salad luncheon gang. Darlene enjoyed playing golf in the Sun Valley Golf League, playing Bingo and belonged to the Mission Club with a bunch of great ladies to play cards. She volunteered a lot of her time at the Bargain Center. But most of all, family held a special place in her heart; her boys and their wives, grandkids and great grandkids. She said her love for us would last forever and ever. Survivors include her husband "Brownie"; 4 sons: Douglas Bay (Denise), Timothy Bay (Kathy), Larry Bay (Joanne) all of Sioux City and Gregory Bay (Barbara) of Elkhorn, NE; 12 grandchildren: Ron Bay (Katie), Lindsey Tarno (Robbie), Heather Petersen, Brandon Petersen (Nicole), Austin Bay, Meghan Robertson, Mamie Combs, Mariha Combs, McKenzi Bay, Dylan Bay, Lexi Bay and Emily Bay; 11 great grandchildren. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, a son Ronald, a grandson Tyler and 4 brothers: Ralph, Donald, Kenneth and Lyle Higgins. Pallbearers will be Ron, Austin, Dylan and Mckenzi Bay, Robbie Tarno, Ryan White and Cauy Robertson.
