Thomas E. Tooey, 82, of Algona, formerly of Sioux City passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, IA. Per his wishes his body will be cremated. There will be a visitation on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at a later date. He graduated from Heelan High School, where is served mass for Bishop Heelen and was the prom king. He went on to graduate and earn his earn his Master's Degree from Morningside College, where he lettered and played football. He was a Teacher and Coach for many years with the Allen, Nebraska, Mapleton, Spencer, LeMars and Sioux City, Iowa, School Systems. He played football briefly at the University of Iowa. He then enlisted in the US Army where he continued to play football. He enjoyed watching sports and being with friends. Thomas is survived by his longtime friend Sonya Smith of Algona, brother-in-law, Dick Schott, and nieces and nephews. Tom often referred to Sonya's children, Sondra Harrington and family, and Darrell Smith and family as his new family. He often referred to the grandchildren, Samantha and Ashlyn Harrington and K'iah and Landon as his adopted "grandkids". He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother and sister Margaret "Tinker" Schott.
