Linda M. Hopp died on Friday January 2, 2015 after a short illness. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the First Unitarian Church, 2508 Jackson Street, in Sioux City. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the First Unitarian Church of Sioux City. She was born September 27, 1928 in Kingsley, Iowa to Glen and Mary Ralston and lived most of her 86 years in Moville, Iowa where she and her husband, Harvey, raised their three children. Most recently, she lived in Sioux City, Iowa. Linda grew up on a farm south of Moville with her brothers Art and Jim and sister Betty, all preceding her in death. As a young girl, she was often responsible for helping bottle feed the lambs that needed to come into the house to stay warm and tending the chickens. She graduated from Woodbury Central High School and went on to nurses training. In 1951, the same year that she and Harvey married, she graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Marian Health Center (now Mercy Medical Center) for many years in psychiatric, medical-surgical and oncology nursing. She also cared for many in the Moville community when they needed a nurse. Linda had an avid interest in genealogy that led her and Harvey to travel to Europe to research family histories. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed paper-making. She and Harvey found great pleasure in many outdoor activities including fishing in both warm and icy conditions, camping, hunting mushrooms, and bird watching. She was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed taking groups on primitive camping trips. Linda was a sports fan. Despite their lack of success, she remained a devoted Chicago Cubs fan and loved attending local softball games to watch her friends' children compete. Linda was christened in the Unitarian Universalist Church and remained active and committed to the good works of the First Unitarian Church of Sioux City. She particularly enjoyed the fellowship of the community and leaves behind many friends there. Linda is survived by her three children Mark (Fonda) of Marshalltown, Daniel (Linda) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Lisa of Valparaiso, Indiana, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
