Muriel Frieda Taub was born in Bronx, New York, on June 22nd, 1922 to parents Sarah (Smith) and Abraham Taub, both originally from Kaunas, Lithuania (former Russia) She graduated high school with honors in New York, and attended the University of Iowa the following autumn where her brother, Marvin, was already a student. The stipulation of her travelling across the country to attend school away from home was that it had to be at the same University where her brother could look after her. It was at U of I that she joined the popular Sigma Delta Tau sorority and subsequently met Junior student Milton "Bud" Galinsky, whom she married in 1942 in New York City. Shortly after that, they made their home in Philadelphia, where "Bud" worked for RCA during World War II. Shortly after the war and the birth of the first of three sons, Stephen, Andrew, and Robertthey moved to Sioux City so that Bud could join the Sioux City Foundry and Boiler Company and work with his father, A.J. Muriel loved Sioux City and was extremely active in many facets of both social and business activities, and was well known and beloved in all circles throughout the town not only as a housewife and mother, but also as a leader in charitable organizations for both civic groups as well as a leader at the (former) Mt. Sinai Temple. She was an active sports woman as both a golfer and tennis player. But it was her love of golf that she took up in her 30's, that become a sporting passion for her and she became a champion in her division and was always competitive at the Sioux City Country Club. Another passion other than her family and beloved Bud' was travel. Bud and Muriel traveled the world and in the 1970's began to divide their time between Naples, Florida and Sioux City. They adventured on golf courses from Scotland to Alaska, and from Japan to Hawaii. Muriel's sense of style and grace was unequaled, and her knowledge of the arts and humanity was vast. Her ability to style and create memorable events was legendary, but amidst her glamour was always humility and gratitude. Her erudite commentary on many things set her apart, and her sense of humor, wit, and inimitable laugh will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Muriel was known for her fairness and calm, and was never known to share a negative thought or word, and was a master at finding the good in every situation and every challenge and setback in her life. She was unshakably and completely devoted to her family and especially husband, Bud, for the almost seventy years they were together as husband and wife until his passing in October of 2011. Muriel is survived by sons Andy and his wife Gabriella, and Bobby and his wife Rosy; grandchildren Andrew II, Alix, Adam, Abe, Axel, Chris and Steve, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Stephen in 1951, brother Marvin in 1987, and husband Bud in 2011.
