Betty Jean McCormick, 83, died May 24, 2015 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 29th, 2015 at St Michael Catholic Church with Father David Hemann officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday May 28th at the church from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with the family present at 6:30 p.m. and prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements. Online Condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com Betty was born March 3, 1932, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of David and Bessie (Baird) Rogers. She was raised and attended school in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in1950. She married Don "Izzy" Salem in 1953 in Sioux City. To this union eight children were born. Izzy passed away in September of 1975. Betty married Robert "Bob" McCormick in 1977 and relocated her family to Ida Grove, Iowa. Following Bob's retirement in 1997, they returned to Sioux City to spend more time with their growing family. Bob passed away in April of 1999. Betty was employed by the Skate Palace in Ida Grove as the event coordinator for 14 years before returning to Sioux City. She was a member of the St Michael's Catholic Church and the Red Hat Society and volunteered at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Lori (Sonny) Kellen and Susie (Ron) Jones and a son Scott (Jordyn) Salem all of Sioux City, sons Tom (Jeannie) Salem, Don (Margie) Salem and Ed Salem all of Omaha, Nebraska, a son Dave (Bobbie) Salem of Lincoln, Nebraska, fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a son Dan Salem, a grandson, Justin Salem and two sisters, Ruth Perley and Lois Frink. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. The family would like to thank Holy Spirit Retirement Home for the extra special care they provided both Betty and her family. Memorials may be directed to Holy Spirit Retirement Home or St Michael Catholic Church. Her fun-loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
