Cleo Florence Sipma, 90 of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at a local care facility following a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Cleo was born November 6, 1924 in Hinton, IA; she was the daughter of Stewart and Violet (Jones) Harrison. Cleo graduated from Hinton Community High School and then attended NBT Business School in Sioux City. She married Allen D. Sipma June 11, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church in LeMars, IA. Allen passed away May 9, 2002 in Sioux City. Cleo was a lifelong resident of Hinton until moving to the Countryside Retirement Home in 2014. Cleo was a switch board operator at Jones Telephone Company during her high school years. She worked as a book keeper at Clarks in Hinton and was a homemaker from 1949 to 1980. She was activities director at New Horizon Care Center in the 1980's and was also a volunteer coordinator for the Department of Human Services. Cleo was a member of the Hinton United Methodist Church and past president of the United Methodist Women. She also served as children's youth choir director and was a member of the choir. Cleo was a charter member of the Plymouth County Sweet Adelines and was a long term president of the local chapter of Compassionate Friends. Survivors include her daughter: Manon Thramer and her husband Richard of South Sioux City, NE; her sister: Elaine Oxenford of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren: Jerrad Thramer, Autumn Boyer, Audra and Augusta Thramer, Sarah Nuno and her husband Ivan, Joshua Sipma and his wife Bobbi Jo; 4 great grandchildren and 1 "on the way". Cleo was preceded in death by her parents Stewart and Violet Jones; brothers Lamar and Francis Jones, her husband Allen Sipma; a daughter Mailon; and a son Lynden.
