Harry Keller

Harry Keller, age 92 of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. Nelson Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Harry Edward, son of William and Kateryna (Daholius) Kowalewicz, was born February 8, 1923, at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He was raised at Glenella where he completed high school. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the Canadian military and served as a Gunnery Instructor during World War II in Europe, where he helped liberate Auschwitz. After the war, he returned to Canada. On May 8, 1948, Harry was united in marriage with Dorothy Elliott at Morden, Manitoba. Two children were born to this union. In 1950, Harry and Dorothy moved to the United States to look for work. They settled in Sioux City, Iowa, where Harry worked as a bricklayer with Klinger Construction, where he eventually became foreman, retiring in 1985. He was a proud member of the Bricklayer's Union for 65 years. Harry was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church where he volunteered and served as Deacon. Throughout the years, he was a member of the Lodge and Shriners (Clown Unit). He also enjoyed volunteering his time with Hospice and the AID Center as a handyman. Harry is survived by: a son Mark Keller and wife Theresa of Omaha, Nebraska; and a granddaughter Hannah Keller. He was preceded in death by: his wife Dorothy; his parents; a daughter Glenda Keller; three brothers: Tom, Joe and Bill; and two sisters: Pearl and Mary. The family respectfully requests that memorial donations be directed to the Salvation Army or Siouxland Humane Society.
