Ellen K. Chaussee

April 17, 1922 — October 24, 2015

Ellen K. Chaussee of Sioux City passed away on October 24, 2015. Memorial services will be held at Meyer Brothers at a later date. Her remains will be cremated. Ellen was born April 17, 1922 in Buck Grove, Iowa to Claude and Jessie (Tilton) Welsh. Buck Grove is a speck on the Iowa map. She grew up in Iowa and Nebraska, came to Sioux City at age thirteen and later graduated from Central High School in 1940. No one in her family suggested she go to college. She met and married Curt Chaussee in 1943. He was entered as a navigator-to-be in Texas and she and Curt were married by a Lutheran minister on the Texas military base. She came back home as Curt left for overseas. Their first child was born after he left and they met again on the east coast where he was stationed for a year. Ellen was employed with the Sioux City School system for several years. It was her favorite work place. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, serving in Altar Guild, teaching Bible and Sunday School. She was also active in Sewing Bees, greeting on Sunday mornings, and was a caller for the Prayer Chain. She so loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Curt became parents to six children: Mary (Dick Allen) of California, Kirk of Kansas, Jane (Tony Sanders) of Colorado, Scott of Colorado, Erik (Deb) of NE, Ann (Mark Sisley) of NE. Grandchildren are Jennifer and Kevin, Brett and Portia, Holly and Joel, Andrew and Melissa, Ben and Laura, Brooke and Ben, Cameron and Chloe, Stephanie and Rachel. Great Grandchildren are Hannah, Jake, Samantha, Joseph, Kyler, Aspen, Fletcher, Gage, Laney, and one more on the way. Memorials may be sent to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, 10004 and/or First Lutheran Church. Her words were "Take care, my Children, and stay in touch with one another". Ellen left this good life.
