Fern R. Damrau

Fern R. Damrau, 87 of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015 at a nursing facility comforted by family. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Whitfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Liz Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service beginning Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences to the family may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com Fern was born on April 15, 1928 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to William F. and Verla R. (Streeter) Minor. She began her education in Nebraska City, but when the family moved to the rural Jefferson, South Dakota area, she completed her 8th grade education at District 9 of Union County and graduated High School from Union County Public Schools with the Class of 1943. Fern married Arnold J. Damrau on April 21, 1951 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Fern continued her education at St. Vincent's Nursing School, where she received her Licensed Practical Nurses Degree. She worked as an L.P.N. at St. Luke's Recovery Room for 32 years, retiring in 1987 to help nurse her husband Arnold at home with his illness. Fern was a proud 50 year member of Whitfield United Methodist Church, where she held several offices in various church groups. Fern also enjoyed her membership to the Coffee Cup Club in the Westfield, Iowa area. Fern is survived by her Son John Damrau and his wife Berniece of rural Sioux City, Iowa; daughter Julie Davis and her special friend Shane DIllman of Rapid City, South Dakota, and son Gary Damrau and his wife Linda of Texas; grandchildren Kenneth Damrau, Adam Damrau, Brian Davis, and Bradley Davis; great-grandchildren Karson Damrau, Harison Damrau, Jameson Damrau, Kylea Damrau, and Harper Damrau. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold in 1992, grandson Riley Damrau, and all of her siblings.
