Charles J. Livingston, Sr.

Charles J. “Chuck” Livingston, Sr. age 83 of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, January 09, 2016 at a care facility in South Sioux City, NE following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Church of the Nativity in Sioux City. Rev. Steven McLoud will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 6:30 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Chuck was born March 5, 1932 in Newcastle, NE; he was the son of Dr. Frank and Mary (McGrath) Livingston.  Chuck grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1950. He taught in Iona, NE in a one room school house for one year. Chuck was drafted into the military service where he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a medic from 1953 to 1955.

Chuck attended Wayne State College and received his Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1958. He received his Masters of Arts from University of South Dakota in 1967.  On August 27, 1960 Chuck and Ellen McCarthy were united in marriage at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, NE. and they had 3 children.  He taught two years Newcastle High School and 34 years at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School in Sioux City retiring in 1994.

Chuck was a member of the Church of the Nativity. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and he was a hunter safety instructor. Chuck served as a National NEA delegate, assistant scout master for BSA Troop 100 Blessed Sacrament Church from 1977 – 1983, Sioux City Teacher Credit Union Board member from 1975-1986 and as Chairman for 8 years.

Survivors include his wife Ellen of Sioux City; 3 children: Michele and her husband Gregg Haupt of Sioux City, Mike Livingston and his wife Janet of Lincoln, NE and Charles Livingston, Jr. of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Beth and her husband Chad Schwarte, Katie Haupt, Zach Livingston and Grace and Ben Livingston.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Nellie, Eddie, Pat, Bobby and Sammy.
