SIOUX CITY | Darloe K. Heath, 86, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Mar. 12, 2016 at his home after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, Mar. 18, 2016 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Rev. Ryan Dowell-Baum will officiate. Military rites and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Darloe was born Oct. 9, 1929 in Correctionville, IA the son of Charles L. and Trula C. (Fugate) Heath. At the age of 13, his family moved to Sioux City where Darloe attended Woodrow Wilson Junior High and graduated from Central High School in 1947. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict on a destroyer ship in the European Theatre.
After his discharge in 1952 from the service he returned to Sioux City and worked at Wincharger Corp. He met his future wife, Shirley Hosmer, in Sioux City. The couple was married on July 11, 1954. Together they raised 3 daughters, Darla, Julie and Nancy.
Darloe started working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1960. Following his retirement in 1988 he worked for First Federal Bank for about 4 years.
He was a longtime member of Mayflower Congregational UCC, American Legion Post 64, Boys of ’68 and the NALC.
Darloe loved yardwork, word puzzles, and meeting for coffee with his buddies. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and he was an all-around handyman.
Survivors include his wife of over 61 years, Shirley; 3 daughters and their husbands, Darla and Mark Holliday of Ames, IA, Julie and Steven Cunningham of Sioux City and Nancy and Bryan Stingley of Jackson, NE; 4 grandchildren, Sarah Holliday, Heath Cunningham, Jane Cunningham and Carson (Dustin) Roth; and 5 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Robert and Charles Heath.
Pallbearers will be Mark Holliday, Steve Cunningham, Bryan Stingley, Heath Cunningham, Dustin Roth, Gary Heath, Roger Heath, Mike Heath and Mike Cunningham.
