Ethyl Mae Ball

Ethyl Ball, 92, of Sioux City died Sept. 25, 2017.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3700 Indian Hills Drive, with a luncheon to follow. Private burial with family will be held following luncheon. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd.

Ethyl was born Feb. 23, 1925, in Wellman, Iowa, to Glenn and Mary Sprague. She married Rollin Ball on May 10, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in May 2017.

During the years of WWII, she was employed by Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1953. After raising her children, she worked for the school lunch program for 20 years and also volunteered helping students with reading.

Ethyl enjoyed crocheting, playing games with friends and family, reading, participating in church circle, teaching Sunday School and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Ethyl is survived by her husband, Rollin Ball, and their children: Karen Martens and husband, David, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Doug and wife, Ruth, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; and Randee and husband, Shawn, of Sioux City; five grandchildren: Jen Ball, Kristen (Ross) Miller, Mike (Amy) Martens, Amy (Kyle) Royuk and Shelby Small; and six great-grandchildren.

Ethyl is preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis Craig; her parents; a sister, Betty Warman; and brother, Vernon Sprague.
