Nina June Roost

Nina J. Roost, 80, of Dakota City, NE passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital.  Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.  Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA.  Visitation with family present will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Nina was born on August 26, 1933 in Dixon, NE to Lisle and Evelyn (Lambertsen) Jewell.  She graduated from Newcastle High School.  Nina worked various jobs, some of which include her own in home day care, a Secretary for the Nebraska Fireman’s Association, Waitress for Hungary’s North, Bartender for the Saratoga and most recently as a Social Worker for Social Services of Dakota County.  She was united in marriage to Clifford Roost on May 23, 1951 at a Lutheran Church in New Castle, NE.  To this union 5 children were born. Nina enjoyed spending her free time with family at their cabin in Decatur, NE, going boating and fishing.  She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, crochet and cook and bake for her family and friends.  She was a member of the Missouri River Boat Club, and was a past President of the Dakota City Fireman’s Auxiliary.  She is survived by her husband Clifford of Dakota City, NE; son Clifford “Terry” (Chong) Roost of Huntington Beach, CA; daughter Pamela (Dale) Buettner of Anthon, IA; son David (Kris) Roost of Hubbard, NE; daughter Debra (fiancé Randy) Derks of Denver, CO;   and daughter Lori (Cliff) Wendt, Sloan, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister Betty Roether of Sacramento, CA; brother Jim (Lee) Jewell of MT;  sister-in-laws Lois Jewell of Grand Junction, CO and Lois Jewell of FL. She was preceded in death by her parents Lyle and Evelyn Jewell, brothers Edwin and George Jewell and a brother in-law Melvin Roether
