Judd O. Lischke, 88 of South Sioux City and formerly of Dakota City passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012 at a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City, NE with the Rev. Jeffrey Ungs officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Taylor Cemetery rural Homer, NE. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Monday with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Judd was born December 6, 1923 in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas the son of Oswald and Ruth (Appleman) Lischke. He grew up on a farm near Dakota City, NE. He graduated from Dakota City High School in 1942 and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a crew member on a B17 bomber, which was shot down on their 15th mission over Schweinfurt, Germany. He was captured and spent 20 months in Stalag VII A and 17B in Kremr, Austria. He was liberated May 3, 1945. He married Donna Woods on September 1, 1946. He graduated from Nebraska School Of Dentistry in 1951 and served two years in the Army Dental Corps during the Korean War. He returned to Dakota City, purchasing the dental practice of Dr. Quimby in June of 1953 where he practiced for 36 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, rural Dakota City, South Sioux City Rotary Club for over 56 years, V.F.W., American Legion Club, D.A.V., International College of Dentists, Nebraska Dental Association and American X-Prisoners Of War. Judd enjoyed hunting and gardening. Survivors include his wife: Donna, three children, James and his wife Diane of Culpeper, Virginia, Judith and her husband Bill Bennett of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Jeffrey and his fiancé Kedest Tesfay of Washington D.C.; five grandchildren: Jennifer Fincham of Culpeper, Virginia, Robert Chamberlain of Homer, Nebraska, Robin Durand of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Jeff Bennett of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Justyn Lischke, six great grandchildren: Jordan and Jacob Waldron of Culpeper, Virginia, Wryden and Camden Chamberlain of Homer, Nebraska and Christopher and Gabriella Durand of South Sioux City, Nebraska, one sister Elaine Carlson of Brookfield, Illinois, one sister-in-law: Dorathe Nielsen of Lemars, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. Judd was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Beteen and two brothers-in-law: Evert Carsopn and Doyle Nielsen. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ron Hirsch. Pallbearers will be Ron Bartels, Chuck Beermann, Bill Addison, Bob Boals, Roger Hubbard and Jim Hubbard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, Hospice Of Siouxland or the Charity of your choice.
