Mary L. Wakefield 64 of South Sioux City passed away on Sunday November 4, 2012 at a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall Knuth officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery, rural Homer, NE. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday with the family present from 6-8 P.M. at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Mary was born May 6, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Charles F. and Ella M. (Matney) Fowler. She attended schools in South Sioux City and was lifelong resident of South Sioux City. She married Kenneth R. Wakefield on October 2, 1964 in South Sioux City. He passed away on December 17, 1999 in Sioux City, Iowa. Mary loved to watch TV, play her play station video games , go camping and playing canasta. She also loved to go to rummage sales. Her greatest treasure was the time she spent with her family during the holidays and other family functions. Survivors include her mother: Ella Fowler of South Sioux City, two sons: Donald and his wife Marie Wakefield and Charles Wakefield all of South Sioux City, two daughters and their husbands: Kimberly and David Merriman of Sioux City and Cherie and Steve VanLaningam of South Sioux City, two brothers and their wives: Charles and Marlene Fowler and Richard and Donna Fowler all of South Sioux City and four grandchildren: Shaun, Christina and Danielle Wakefield and Jacob Hansen. She was preceded in death by her father and her husband Kenneth. Pallbearers will be David Merriman, Shaun Wakefield, Jacob Hansen, Terry Fowler, Steve Fowler and Dale Swan.
