James E. Wahlstom

December 31, 1940 — May 4, 2021

James E. Wahlstrom, 80 of rural Hinton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.  Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, with Reverend Bruce Jackson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Trinity Cemetery, adjacent to the church.  Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the church.  In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.  Due to Covid-19 protocol, no luncheon will be served and facial masks are suggested.  Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com

James was born on December 31, 1940 in Sioux City to Edgar and Clarice (Nicolaisen) Wahlstrom.  He received his education at Central High School in Sioux City, Morningside College, and obtained his Master’s Degree from the University of South Dakota.  James served his country in the United States Army, and continued in the reserves following his honorable discharge. 

James lived in Sioux City from 1940 until 1996, when he moved to rural Hinton, Iowa.  He was an Iowa Work Force Auditor for the State of Iowa, worked in the family business of National Woodworks in Sioux City, and was a Tax Preparer from 1980 until 2018.  James married Connie Krause at the Trinity Lutheran Church on July 1, 1989.  James was a proud member of the church for many, many years.

James enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing pool.  He and Connie enjoyed traveling together, including international travel, where they enjoyed photography.  The two where past members of the Sioux City Camera Club.  James enjoyed cookies, and was affectionately called “Cookie Monster” by many.  He was also known for his ability to tell stories, some perhaps, a little too long at times.  

James is survived by his wife Connie of rural Hinton, Iowa; son Ryan Wahlstrom of Maryland; daughter Chris Wahlstrom of Sioux City, daughter Jeanine “Nina” Jarrett of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; and son James Joseph Foulk of Sioux City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son.

Casket Bearers for the service will be son Ryan Wahlstrom, step-son John Visvikis, step-son Jason Visvikis, son James Foulk, nephew Cody Mueke, and friend Rob Leckband.
