Velma E. Kaufman

SIOUX CITY -- Velma E. Kaufman, 95, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Countryside Senior Living.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Evangelical Church, 813 B Street, in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Clyde Pritchett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Velma was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Bradley, S.D., the daughter of Bert and Nora Goodell.

She married Francis C. "Mike" Kaufman on June 7, 1937, in Clark, S.D. He preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 2001, in Fresno, Calif.

She loved to sew, cook and paint. In her later years, she took up oil painting and many of her family members enjoyed her paintings. She loved to travel, but most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of Evangelical Church.

Survivors include her sons, David Kaufman and his wife, Linda of Sergeant Bluff, and the Rev. Duane Kaufman and his wife, Sharon of Seneca, Ill.; a daughter, Dorothy and her husband, Melvin Cline of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lee Goodell and his wife, Inez of Rapid City, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Bernice Fromke and Hazel Lourey.

Memorials may be directed to the Evangelical Church in South Sioux City.
